Oh Henry!!

My family moved quite a few times while I was in elementary school. From fourth grade to fifth grade I went to four different elementary schools. I am sure there are many of you out there that could relate to that. In fifth grade – my third school – I met a girl named Jennifer. She was from Iowa, and I was from Montana. She was tall and blonde just like me.

We went to school together from September to May – eight short months. In May my family made our final move to where I now live. Despite the short length of our time going to school together we somehow have maintained a friendship that has lasted more than 21 years. She is so much more than a friend to me, and no matter time nor distance she has always been more like a sister to me.

I guess that is why when Michelle contacted me to photograph her newest addition to her family I was unbelievably flattered and excited. Michelle is Jennifer's "So Cool" older sister. It was under the education of these girls that I learned how to shave my legs and get my bangs to stand up just a little higher. I don't know if they have any idea of how influential they were in my life and how very much they and their families mean to me.

It was with excitement and pleasure that I drove back to Maple Valley to photograph this adorable family and scrumptious new baby named Henry. From the moment I arrived I had an amazing assistant in Jack, Michelle's three year old son.

He ran in and out of the house helping me carry all my props, telling me each time as he ran by how much faster he was than me. I loved his open and outgoing nature; clearly a representation of Michelle and Spencer. A true charmer he is!!

Michelle was laid back and excited for me to do whatever I wanted – something parents should be careful telling me. I know Spencer questioned my madness as I was placing his baby in a vintage lunch box.

It's probably a good thing I found this passion for photography after my kids were a little bigger. I would have been trying to put them in the craziest of places ; )!!

Henry ate like a champ and with my beautiful white noise track on my phone I had him fast to sleep in no time. From there it was just magic.

Every newborn shoot I fall in love with some idea or another. I must say I am proud of how these images worked out.

Henry ... was a dream to work with. It is my pleasure to share with you some of my favorite images from this shoot. I hope Michelle and Spencer love them as much as I do.
